Standalone Sunday is a weekly meme hosted by Megan@bookslayerreads. Standalone Sunday was created to let others know about all the standalone books you have loved, but maybe don’t get the attention they need. Megan created the banner as well and anyone joining in can use it too. Why not check out her blog too
I can’t believe I missed last week, but I’m back again with another standalone book that I really enjoyed, Conclave by Robert Harris.
Here’s the blurb from Goodreads:
“The Pope is dead.
Behind the locked doors of the Sistine Chapel, one hundred and eighteen cardinals from all over the globe will cast their votes in the world’s most secretive election.
They are holy men. But they have ambition. And they have rivals.
Over the next seventy-two hours one of them will become the most powerful spiritual figure on earth.”
You wouldn’t really think that book about choosing the next Pope would be full of suspense and be a page turner would you? This was well crafted and intriguing with a great ending and I definitely didn’t see coming!
If anyone can spin a story about cardinals into an interesting enough story it must be Robert Harris. Nice pick!

This one caught my eye at the local library a few weeks ago and have been deciding whether I want to read it or not. What is the author’s attitude toward the Roman Catholic Church? If it’s a love letter to the church or a complete hatchet job I probably won’t bother, but the intrigue that goes on in church politics does make for good stories.

It’s neither, but a very good a suspense set amongst the RC politics of The Vatican.

I think I have heard this author’s name before. I need to google his work. I have to admit that the blurb excites me some. I can seriously see the potential in this plot 🙂

You might have sen him on my blog as I’ve blogged a couple of his books before on past Standalone Sundays. This was a very enjoyable book full of suspense and church politics.
