It’s unquestionably the least demanding bookish meme on the interwebs, so join in!
Six Degrees of Separation is a monthly meme hosted by Books Are My Favourite and Best. The idea is to start with the book that Kate gives us and then create a chain of six books, each suggested by the one before…
This month we begin with the international best-seller, The No.1 Ladies Detective Agency, by Alexander McCall Smith. I haven’t read this particular book but I have listened to a collection of short stories about Mma Ramotswe and the agency. Oh and I loved the BBC series from a few years ago.
Books about lady detectives brings Maisie Dobbs by Jacqueline Winspeare to mind. It’s a wonderful series about a housemaid turned detective, set in London after WW1.
WW1 makes me think of All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque, a book I listened to on audio only within the last few years ago, but wish I’d come across when I was younger. I know it on school curriculums in some countries, and really wish it had been a book choice for me at school.
A book I did read at school and I’m re-reading for the first times in years is Charles Dickens’ A Tale of Two Cities. I’ve been meaning to read it for years but have been put off after having to study it at school. I’m actually enjoying it this time around, which is quite a relief.
Another book I’m enjoying at the moment is Neil Gaiman’s Neverwhere. I’m listening to the BBC dramatisation and it’s brilliant, which really surprises me as I’m not a fantasy fan. A very good friend gave it me for my birthday recently, and I’m so pleased as it’s not a book I’d have picked for myself.
Lost Boy by Christina Henry is another book that I would not normally have chosen to read, but it was so well done that it was one of my top reads of last year.
From Botswana to Neverland, via London, The Western Front, French Revolution Paris, and Under London’s Neverwhere.
Hope you enjoyed the trip! 🙂
This such a cool meme!

I’ve not read the books but loved the Ladies Detective Agency on tv too, it’s a shame they didn’t make more episodes of that show, it was really fun 🙂
