Music Monday is a meme created and hosted by Drew@TheTattooedBookGeek as an opportunity to share a favourite music video.
This week I’ve chosen Get Up And Go by The Rutles a brilliant parody of Get Back by The Beatles.
The Rutles are a rock band known for their visual and aural pastiches and parodies of the Beatles. This originally fictional band, created by Eric Idle and Neil Innes for 1970s television programming, became an actual group – whilst remaining a parody of the Beatles – which toured and recorded, releasing many songs and albums that included two UK chart hits. Created as a short sketch in Idle’s UK television comedy series Rutland Weekend Television, the Rutles gained fame after being the focus of the 1978 mockumentary television film All You Need Is Cash (also known as The Rutles). Former Beatle George Harrison appeared in the film and assisted in its creation. Encouraged by the positive public reaction to the sketch, featuring Beatles’ music pastiches by Innes, the film was written by Idle, who co-directed it with Gary Weis. It had 20 songs written by Innes, which he performed with three musicians as the Rutles. A soundtrack album in 1978 was followed in 1996 by Archaeology, which spoofed the Beatles’ recent Anthology series. A second film, The Rutles 2: Can’t Buy Me Lunch – modelled on the 2000 TV special The Beatles Revolution – was made in 2002 and released in the US on DVD in 2003. (Wikipedia)
Workin’ up a fever in a one horse town
Was a jockey by the name of Joe
He didn’t have a lot of what you might call luck
But he had a lot of get up n’ go
Get up n’ go
Get up n’ go
Get up n’ go back home
Get up n’ go
Get up n’ go
Get up n’ go back home
Tall in the saddle in a one-horse town
Joe, he knew someday he’d hit the road
He traded with a dealer for a pick-up truck
And went lookin’ for a medium load
Get up n’ go
Get up n’ go
Get up n’ go back home
Get up n’ go
Get up n’ go
Get up n’ go back home
Ow!
Get up n’ go
Get up n’ go back home
Everybody’s waitin’ for ya
Cruisin’ down the highway doin’ sixty-five
In the middle of the double white line
One foot on the gas and his head in the clouds
He didn’t see the one-way sign
Get up n’ go
Get up n’ go
Get up n’ go back home
Get up n’ go
Get up n’ go
Get up n’ go back home
Ow!
Get up n’ go
Get up n’ go back home
They’re all waitin’ for ya
Get up and go
Get up and go
Get up and go back home
Get up n’ go
Get up n’ go
Get up n’ go back home
Get up n’ go
Get up n’ go
Get up n’ go back home
Get up n’ go
Get up n’ go
Get up n’ go back home
Oooooo!
Love it 🎶

I haven’t thought of the Rutles in years. The song that stuck with me is ‘Cheese and Onions’. 😉

Loving it! My favourite Rutles song will probably always be Shangri-La, tho.

Thanks I’ve not heard Shangri-La, is that on the anthology album?
