From Goodreads: “When Carly Sears, a young woman widowed by the Vietnam war, receives the news that her unborn baby girl has a heart defect, she is devastated. It is 1970, and she is told that nothing can be done to help her child. But her brother-in-law, a physicist with a mysterious past, tells her that perhaps there is a way to save her baby. What he suggests is something that will shatter every preconceived notion that Carly has. Something that will require a kind of strength and courage she never knew existed. Something that will mean an unimaginable leap of faith on Carly’s part. And all for the love of her unborn child.”
My Review
This was such a lovely book, and one that I wouldn’t have picked up if I hadn’t read such wonderful reviews in the book blogging community.
What starts as an innocent historical fiction novel, turns into something quite fantastical as Carly decides that she wants to take advantage of her brother-in-law’s suggestion to save her unborn baby.
Having read a few spoiler free reviews and then read others that hinted at what happened next to Carly, I was desperate to move away from the historical aspect of this book and onto the real adventure!
Without giving anything away, this was a superb story that had me gripped not knowing where it was going to head. There were quite a few plot twists that I really didn’t expect and some that I thought might happen but didn’t. I really liked Carly and loved her adventurous spirit.
This is a tale about unconditional love which made me think over and over again how I would’ve dealt with the situation. I’m quite a wuss at times, but I’d like to think that in my son’s case I’d do the same as Carly did for her unborn child.
I’d definitely recommend this if you enjoy heart-warming stories with a bit of a twist.
This is my sixth book for the 2019 Library Love Challenge

This book found me at exactly the right time when I needed an engaging escapist read! Very well done because it hooked me and I’m not a sci-fi time travel reader! 👍
