2023 Audiobook Challenge, 2023 Reading Challenges
It’s time for the Mid Year Update for one of my favourites reading challenges of the year. If my records are correct I’ve listened to 50 audiobooks so far this year! I was originally aiming for 50 for the whole year so I’m absolutely thrilled! I wonder how many I’ll have listened to by the end of the year, especially since I’ve cancelled my Scribd subscription?
holy flip, that’s amazing!! well done!! I’m sure you listen to them in your sleep to get the numbers up so high haha!! xx

Wow Nicki! Well done! I wish I could get into listening to audiobooks, but I’ve tried several times and wasn’t a fan. If I could listen to books my review queue would no doubt be shorter.

Thanks Lynne! My husband and son don’t get on with them either, so I know how you feel.

Thanks Jo 💜 I thought I’d signed up for the 100 Club, but when I realised it was Marathoner I was so happy! 😀

Firstly, well done, that’s awesome. Out of interest, what speed do you set them at – x1.5, or faster? I find audiobooks take me way longer to listen to than it would have done to read the book. Plus I struggle to concentrate on what I’m hearing.

Thanks! 😀 I very rarely increase the speed, only if it feels that the narrator is too slow for my ears! 😂

I usually go for 1.5x but I listen to way less than you do!

Congrats! 🙌🎉 I listen to audio occasionally…listening is harder work for me than reading print! My husband reads entirely via audio.

Thanks Carol! 😀 Audiobooks are definitely not for everyone, as my husband and son keep reminding me! 😂

Wow Nicki, that’s amazing! So you decided to cancel your Scribd subscription after all? This month, after last month’s debacle, I chose only older books from my list and they still haven’t cut me off, so apparently, that’s the trick. And meanwhile, I’m beating the backlist, it’s a win-win 😂

Thanks I was amazed! Scribd annoyed me so much I deleted ny account! Kobo actually have some good bargains sometimes and their subscription is cheaper than audible so I might go with them instead.

Kobo won’t allow me on their UK marketplace so that’s not an option for me 😕 But it’s great that you’ve found an alternative!

That’s so annoying!

Thanks Jo! Yes I’ve got a few favourites 😀 I love the Rivers of London books on audio and have binge listened to them twice now. Circe by Madeline Miller was wonderful, Bono’s autobiography Surrender read brilliantly by him, and of course the Little Wartime Library. I also love the Mydworth Mysteries on audio. They’re short books so great for a quick l listen with fun stories. Hope that helps! 😀

I don’t know how you do it but you definitely are the gold standard of audiobook listening!!! 😛

Scribd really helped, but they started heavily restricting my audiobook choices, so I cancelled my subscription last month. So I definitely won’t be listening to as many in this half of the year.

That’s awesome, Nicki. You will blow that goal out of the water. I find I get so many audiobooks from NG and my library, I don’t use Scribd as much any more. I took out a year’s subscription, but when it expires, I may let it go, at least for awhile.

Thanks Carla. I’m missing my Scribd subscription at times, but they annoyed me so much that I doubt I’d go back to it!

Right now a bunch of books I wanted to listen to for Christmas in July suddenly became unavailable until next week. It is frustrating.

Yeah that’s why I cancelled and deleted my account.
