Listen for the Lie by Amy TinteraSynopsis: “Am I a murderer? You tell me . . .
You probably already know my name. Lucy Chase, the woman who doesn’t remember murdering her best friend. Even though they couldn’t find enough evidence to charge me, I know you all think I did it. That’s OK. I realise being found wandering the streets the next day covered in her blood wasn’t a great look. Believe me, I’m as frustrated as you are. I’d love to know if I’m a murderer – it’s the sort of thing you really should know about yourself, isn’t it? And now, thanks to true-crime podcast Listen for the Lie, I finally have the chance to find out. But will I be able to live with myself if it turns out it was me? And if it wasn’t, will digging into the secrets of the night I forgot make me the next target of whoever did?”

My Review

This was a fantastic audiobook that hooked me right from the beginning.

It’s told from Lucy’s point of view, and through episodes of a true crime podcast by Ben Owen’s.

Lucy is visiting her hometown of Plumpton for her Grandma’s birthday, and Ben is there making a new podcast about Lucy, who was suspected of murdering her best friend in the town five years ago. He’s tried to speak to her about coming on his show, but she’s avoided all contact with him. She can’t remember if she murdered her best friend Savvy or not, and is terrified that he’s going to find her guilty.

I liked Lucy, although I wasn’t at all sure about her innocence, especially as everyone in the town thought she was guilty, including her own parents! Her Grandma however is on her side, and always has been, which is the only reason she’s going back home.

I really enjoyed how the podcast episodes revealed more and more secrets about the town and it’s residents. I got so caught up in the story that I didn’t have a clue who the murderer could be, so enjoyed it when the big reveal came.

January LaVoy’s narration was superb, as was Will Damron’s as Ben Owens the true crime podcaster.

Highly recommend on audio,
