On this Day in History is a new meme started by myself as an opportunity to share books connected to a specific event in time. To participate, choose a book you may or may not have read and show it off! Don’t forget to link back to this blog and feel free to add your links in the comments.
Did you know that 28 years ago today – 28 November 1989 – the Berlin Wall fell?
I remember hearing the broadcast on BBC radio as it happened. I couldn’t believe it as I’d only just visited Berlin that summer. I went through Check Point Charlie and saw the goose-stepping soldiers in East Berlin.
The book I’ve chosen is Stasiland: Stories from Behind the Berlin Wall by Anna Funder.

Have you read this book or any books related to this event?
I remember watching it on tv with my family as my paternal grandmother was from Germany. But I’ve never read anything related to it.

It was such an amazing event. I’m sure I heard the BBC reporter on the radio likening the crowds and atmosphere to ‘The Second Coming’, not something you’d be likely to hear today!
