I love this meme created and hosted by Inge @The Belgian Reviewer highlighting the difference between covers for the same book. I’ve noticed the same thing happening with audiobooks as well. Let’s have a look at some covers.
On Her Majesty’s Secret Service by Ian Fleming
I know it’s pretty boring but I actually like the middle one, because it shows you who’s reading for a change.
Death in the East by Abir Mukherjee
Well I like both of them, the first for the colour and second one for the building and the birds, which feature in the story.
You Can Run by Karen Cleveland
Hmm I’m not so sure about this one, maybe the last one because it shows motion? 🤔
Citadel by Kate Mosse
Well I think it’s got to be the first one as that’s the copy I listened to originally, although the other two aren’t bad covers.
The Image of Her by Sonia Velton
Well I do like the flowery cover, but it’s got nothing to do with the story, so it’s got to be the second cover.
Daisy Jones & The Six
I prefer the first cover, as it’s the original one that I had, but I also quite like that turquoise cover as well.
Different covers, especially when publishers create them for different countries, always fascinate me. Why did they choose one look for the UK and a totally different look for the US? And when you throw Canada in the mix, it’s just mind-blowing. It’s cool that looking at them is a bookish meme. Excellent cover choices!
I love this meme. I agree with Tessa, why they choose different covers for different countries always gets me thinking. The covers I don’t like are movie tie-ins.
I follow you for all the covers except for The Image of Her. I absolutely love the flowers on the first cover. I wasn’t too sure about On Her Majesty’s Service and You Can Run at first but I can get behind your reasons so that helped my choice too. Great set of covers, thanks for joining Nicki!
1. I like the first cover as it reminds me most of the Bond movies
2. Like you, I find both are appealing but prefer the second one
3. No basis other than my mind gravitates rather quickly to the third one
4. I love the first one!
5. I was going to choose the flowery cover until you said it has nothing to do with the story! Definitely the second one.
6. I like the second one because it looks like an album cover.
Left, left, right, left, right, left. Sounds like a weird kind of march, doesn’t it.

Thanks they seem to change audiobook covers to coincide with paperback covers these days.

I like your picks. The idea of a cover that better reflects something from the story is definitely a nice plus! 😀

I would choose the first for all except for You Can Run; I like the last one best for that one.
