The Book Blogger Hop was originally created by Jennifer @ Crazy-For-Books in March 2010 and ended on December 31, 2012. With Jennifer’s permission, Billy @ Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer relaunched the hop on February 15, 2013. Each week the hop will start on a Friday and end the following Thursday. There will be a weekly prompt featuring a book related question. The hop’s purpose is to give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books, befriend other bloggers, and receive new followers to their own blog.

I think I’m somewhere in between, but then again it probably depends on what each person considers to be a short or long review. I’ve been told my reviews are long, but I’ve also been told by others about the same reviews that they are short. 🙂

Mine are usually 300 words and include a very short snyposis of the plot. So the whole thing is fairly short.

Sounds good. My reviews always have the synopsis at the top and then I go on to my thoughts. I don’t want to rewrite the synopsis and give things away, so I comment on the structure and the way that the book is written 🙂

I tend to start my review by saying what drew me to the book and whether or not that initial pull paid off, cos that’s usually what gets the words flowing. I do usually add a short paragraph about the content, but only if I feel it helps me get my thoughts and feelings across better and especially when I feel the blurb is too long (and I think people might skip it) or misleading in any way. I don’t count the words, I just say what I have to say 😂

When it comes to writing reviews, I think my answer would be ‘as long as it needs to be’. Just stop when you’ve run out of meaningful things to say. However, I quite enjoy reading longer reviews where it’s obvious the person has put a lot of thought into it, perhaps including some of their own experiences that are relevant to the story or what they learned from reading the book. Although I don’t read the sort of books she does, I always enjoy reading Anne Williams’ reviews which tend to be on the longer side.

I write and read both. Long reviews need to be broken up into many small blocks of text for me to read them! My brain likes to skip long text blocks!
I write a brief synopsis (in my own words) first to set the context for the rest of my review. It’s part of the review in a way because I get to highlight what I think was the central idea.
Sometimes I will even write a bullet point review if I’m not in the mood to assemble all the words into sentences!

I prefer shorter reviews as well, both for reading and writing. I do tend to write longer reviews for ARCs, but those are never the most fun to write. xD I’ve also noticed that I tend to have a lot more to say about books I didn’t really enjoy than books I absolutely loved…

My reviews are long but I don’t mind reading short reviews as long as they have main points that make me decide whether to read the book or not.

Hmm, interesting question. I usually don’t include the synopsis, so my reviews include a brief synopsis, then my thoughts. They are not too long, about 2 decent paragraphs. I tend to skim reviews if they are too long.

This is a good conversation – and like many of the answers, I don’t include the blurb or book synopsis because i feel like that’s usually too repetitive. I give a 1 paragraph bare bones plot. Generally I try to keep the whole thing fairly short but sometimes there’s just a lot to say, you know? 🙂 This is my first blogger hop and I’m finding it illuminating!
