Book Synopsis: “Caroline Grant is struggling to accept the end of her marriage when she receives an unexpected bequest. Her beloved great-aunt Lettie leaves her a sketchbook, three keys, and a final whisper…Venice. Caroline’s quest: to scatter Juliet “Lettie” Browning’s ashes in the city she loved and to unlock the mysteries stored away for more than sixty years. It’s 1938 when art teacher Juliet Browning arrives in romantic Venice. For her students, it’s a wealth of history, art, and beauty. For Juliet, it’s poignant memories and a chance to reconnect with Leonardo Da Rossi, the man she loves whose future is already determined by his noble family. However star-crossed, nothing can come between them. Until the threat of war closes in on Venice and they’re forced to fight, survive, and protect a secret that will bind them forever. Key by key, Lettie’s life of impossible love, loss, and courage unfolds. It’s one that Caroline can now make right again as her own journey of self-discovery begins.“
Glad you enjoyed the story despite the narrator (who I really like). It’s weird that one with an authentic British accent wasn’t used. Great review. Nicki💜

Thanks Jo 💜 It’s weird that they don’t use narrators with authentic accents. It’s happened to me a few times and I don’t really understand it. Fortunately this time it didn’t spoil the story.

The story sounds wonderful. I love a book that can transport me to a different time and place. Sorry to hear the narrator of the audio version was a bit lacking. Excellent review!

Funny, I thought Barrie Kreinik was Australian cos I listened to her narrating a Sally Hepworth book set in Australia, in an Australian accent, which, to my ears, sounded authentic 😂 I always assume narrators narrate in their own native accent, except maybe to accommodate the accent of a character.

I do admit that it’s odd to go with a voice actor who doesn’t naturally have the accent instead of taking that risk of it sounding weird hahah Great review, Nicki! Glad you enjoyed this. 😀

Thanks Lashaan! I’m getting more fussy, but other listeners might not have a problem with it! 😂

I love the sound of this story, and of course armchair travel to Venice is a wonderful bonus. Too bad the narration didn’t add to the story. I don’t understand why they wouldn’t use a narrator with an authentic accent either, there are so many out there.
