Book Blogger Hop – Do You Still Enjoy Reading Children’s Books? #BookLover #BookBloggerHop #BookTwitter #ILoveReading #SecretLibraryBookBlog
The Book Blogger Hop was originally created by Jennifer @ Crazy-For-Books in March 2010 and ended on December 31, 2012. With Jennifer’s permission, Billy @ Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer relaunched the hop on February 15, 2013. Each week the hop will start on a Friday and end the following Thursday. There will be a weekly prompt featuring a book related question. The hop’s purpose is to give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books, befriend other bloggers, and receive new followers to their own blog.
Such an interesting question. I don’t read children’s books, although I don’t mind those classed as young adult. I think that your point about them having a serious element is valid though – it’s easy to see them as irrelevant to adults, and that’s not the case at all.

Your answer made me think and I realized I’ve never read children’s books for very long. When I was young I leaped into chapter books very quickly and often picked books that were truly not appropriate for my age. 🤣. I love your answer, though! It’s good to keep that wonder 💕

I love the Narnia books too and still re-read them, as well as some of the Little House books and others.

As you know, Nicki, I am a grandma and love reading to and with my grandkids. I enjoy all books whether children’s picture books, MG, YA or adult. I use the excuse that I have to read them to see if my grands will like them, but I enjoy them too. I especially love picture books! I have a huge bookcase full of books that I had as a kid or my kids had and I will never get rid of them. I love to pick them up and reread and remember.

The Narnia books are still some of my favorites, and I do enjoy reading children’s books. I just don’t do it very often these days!

I will say “It depends”. I do like reading and then rereading certain book of all ages, but for “kids” books I hate those that are too patronising, or have some kind of “theme” i didnt pick up on when I was a kid. Enid Blyton ended up being racist, classist and misogynistic upon re-reading; The Narnia books were Lewis’s “Bible revisited for kids”. Yes these are books that were written in a certain era, yes I reread them as an adult; Yes I could be jaded, but I stand y my decision

I like children’s books as well. I didn’t read Goodnight Mister Tom as a child, but have seen loads of (adult) readers talking about it. Tempted to give it a try.

I love reading children’s books, I tend to stick the classics though or those which are favourites from my childhood. My kids are just getting into Roald Dahl so I’m enjoying re-reading those.

I don’t usually read a lot of children’s books, but I recently reread Matilda and it was so much fun! I also read another middle grade book earlier this month, and it was a great experience as well…

When my niece and nephew were young, I read to them all the time from when they could sit up in my lap. They’re both voracious readers and I miss reading all of those stories. But, I sometimes live vicariously in them when you and others feature children’s books.
Great question!

I didn’t read English children’s book as a kid so now I’m catching up through my kid and I really enjoy reading them with and for her.

I like to pick some up here and then just for a nice breather in-between longer and more thematically-darker books! 😀

One of my greatest joys is reading Dr Seuss books to my daughter. And I’d read them by myself if I could get away with it. A lot of it is just nonsense for the sake of nonsense (but utterly fun besides) and yet some of his work is as profound as any adult book I’ve ever read. Rule children’s books out at your peril, I say.
