The Book Blogger Hop was originally created by Jennifer @ Crazy-For-Books in March 2010 and ended on December 31, 2012. With Jennifer’s permission, Billy @ Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer relaunched the hop on February 15, 2013. Each week the hop will start on a Friday and end the following Thursday. I used to think that I preferred standalone books, thinking that I never really read series, but of course that’s completely wrong. If I get into a series then I stick with it and want to read all the books, even sometimes pre-ordering them. Here are some of my favourites:

I liked good standalone but I love series more. It’s different feel to stick with the same world and characters in series… it’s like it makes me part of the world and that I don’t get in standalone.

As I’m notoriously bad at starting series from the beginning or reading them in the right order, I guess that amounts to standalone.

I’ve found that I’ve always liked series (hello, Nancy Drew), but enjoy them more when they can be read as a standalone novel. I’ve found so many good cozy series in the past few years through ARCs, and its usually in the middle of the series. OF course, I usually end up going back and reading the missing volumes, but I find that’s a great way to get new readers to a series.

My love of series is pretty well known by those who follow my reading. A great series makes me want to return to characters, storylines and communities. With that said, I love a good standalone…one and done that leaves me pretty satisfied. Typically that’s going to be a great thriller or mystery.

I like both. But keeping up with a multitude of series isn’t always doable so I have dropped a few along the way.

Off the top of my head Michael Wood’s Matilda Darke series. And a few of the Bookouture ones because I can’t keep up with the pace at which they publish them.

I do like both, but I’ve found that I struggle to find the motivation to start a series once there are already so many books published. It just feels too daunting. If I’m there from the beginning, great, otherwise…

I prefer standalones to books in a series that publish once a year. If it’s a series I want to read, I usually wait until it’s finished to start it !

I feel similar when it comes to stand-alones and series; while in a way I prefer stand-alones, I do love reading series as well. It’s good to see favorites including Eddie Flynn, Rivers Of London and Thursday Murder Club on here. xx

Depends, honestly. I used to read a lot standalones but nowadays I tend more to series just because the journey does go on
