Book Blogger Hop – Standalone or Series? #BookLover #BookBloggerHop #BookTwitter #ILoveReading #MyBookishLife #SecretLibraryBookBlog
The Book Blogger Hop was originally created by Jennifer @ Crazy-For-Books in March 2010 and ended on December 31, 2012. With Jennifer’s permission, Billy @ Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer relaunched the hop on February 15, 2013. Each week the hop will start on a Friday and end the following Thursday. There will be a weekly prompt featuring a book related question. The hop’s purpose is to give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books, befriend other bloggers, and receive new followers to their own blog.
I love my stand alones but I also love to binge a great series!

I liked good standalone but I love series more. It’s different feel to stick with the same world and characters in series… it’s like it makes me part of the world and that I don’t get in standalone.

Yes great way to describe it! It’s like meeting up with old friends when the next book comes out!

As I’m notoriously bad at starting series from the beginning or reading them in the right order, I guess that amounts to standalone.

I guess so!

Bit of both for me! When you find a great series it’s fabulous to go through them all! xx

I’ve found that I’ve always liked series (hello, Nancy Drew), but enjoy them more when they can be read as a standalone novel. I’ve found so many good cozy series in the past few years through ARCs, and its usually in the middle of the series. OF course, I usually end up going back and reading the missing volumes, but I find that’s a great way to get new readers to a series.

Yes NetGalley is a really good way to introduce readers to a new series!

My love of series is pretty well known by those who follow my reading. A great series makes me want to return to characters, storylines and communities. With that said, I love a good standalone…one and done that leaves me pretty satisfied. Typically that’s going to be a great thriller or mystery.

I like both. But keeping up with a multitude of series isn’t always doable so I have dropped a few along the way.

Ooh which ones have you dropped?

Off the top of my head Michael Wood’s Matilda Darke series. And a few of the Bookouture ones because I can’t keep up with the pace at which they publish them.

Fair enough there’s just not enough time!

I do like both, but I’ve found that I struggle to find the motivation to start a series once there are already so many books published. It just feels too daunting. If I’m there from the beginning, great, otherwise…

I agree Jo, it is a bit daunting when there’s loads in a series. x

Tough question! I do like a well-done stand-alone novel these days. There’s just tooooo many series hahaha

I prefer standalones to books in a series that publish once a year. If it’s a series I want to read, I usually wait until it’s finished to start it !

Interesting I’ve never thought about doing that before!

I feel similar when it comes to stand-alones and series; while in a way I prefer stand-alones, I do love reading series as well. It’s good to see favorites including Eddie Flynn, Rivers Of London and Thursday Murder Club on here. xx

Depends, honestly. I used to read a lot standalones but nowadays I tend more to series just because the journey does go on
