Book Blogger Hop – To Love or Hate… a Book? #BookLover 💙📚 #BookBloggerHop #BookTwitter #ILoveReading #BookX #SecretLibraryBookBlog
The Book Blogger Hop was originally created by Jennifer @ Crazy-For-Books in March 2010 and ended on December 31, 2012. With Jennifer’s permission, Billy @ Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer relaunched the hop on February 15, 2013. Each week the hop will start on a Friday and end the following Thursday. There will be a weekly prompt featuring a book related question. The hop’s purpose is to give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books, befriend other bloggers, and receive new followers to their own blog.
Sometimes, when I am talking books, I feel like The Emperor’s New Clothes. Are we talking about the same story?!

I love Taylor’s books but have yet to read The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, although it is on my TBR pile. Hmm…now I am still determining. I came very close to purchasing The Maid, and now I am glad I didn’t. Great post, Nicki!

Thanks Jody I’m very much in the minority though so please don’t let me put you off!

I’ve only DNF’d one book that I can recall and it was a Pulitzer Prize novel, Angle of Repose. It was my book club’s selection and I just couldn’t make it through the first chapter. Contrary to popular opinion, I also found The Shipping News underwhelming. Most recently, I enjoyed a book called Adelaide that many didn’t. That said, I only changed my rating after the publisher agreed to stop promoting it as a romance.

Wow you’ve only DNF’d one book Jo? Is that because you only read/listen to books you know you’re going to like or you finish everything you read/listen to?

A little of both. I do a good job of researching books before I start, or at least I’ve done that the last ten years. But, I also have a tough time giving up on a book. I’ve two now that I’m struggling with on deciding to DNF or keep trying.

Life’s too short if you’re struggling!

I could never get on with the Time Traveller’s Wife and I tried a couple of times. As my reading has changed since then maybe I should give it another go, though it would have to join a very long queue! x

I’ve got a copy somewhere and have been meaning to read it for years, but you know… 😂 x

I haven’t read Taylor Jenkins Reid yet. My book club is reading Carrie Soto is Back in April. I’m curious now if I’ll be like you or the majority. 😀

I liked the Maid. I have yet to read TJR books. I enjoyed Pride and Prejudice but her other books are just as good!
Have a great weekend!

I did not like Pride and Prejudice the first time I read it. I am not sure why I picked it up a second time, but I loved it that time. Austen is definitely an author it takes me a while to settle into, but I enjoy her books. (I am in no way suggesting you give P&P another try though. Haha) Austen isn’t for everyone. Sometimes for me it’s about timing, whether I like a book or not. There have been books I loved that I may not have liked as much if I’d read them later or earlier in my life.
I hope you have a great weekend!

Did you read the book for Pride and Prejudice or just listen to the audiobook? I read the book a few years ago for the first time and I really enjoyed it. I read it after watching the 2005 movie, which I also enjoyed. Right now I’m listening to the audiobook. I am enjoying it, but I don’t think I would as much if I hadn’t read the book first. On a related note, the book I highlighted on my post for another blog hop today is Pride, Prejudice, and Poison. Lol. 🙂

I tried reading it a few times so tried the audiobook instead.

I hated Daisy Jones and the Six! 😄 But I loved Evelyn Hugo. I adore Pride and Prejudice but really didn’t like Persuasion which many people say is their favourite Austen book. Good job we don’t all like the same things really isn’t it?

Books I hated that other people love were The Outsiders and Enders Game. People love those, and I didn’t see the appeal. Books I love that other people hated were The Host by Stephanie Meyer and Call of the Wild.

I got an ARC of Malibu Rising a few years ago and DNFd it. I’m almost afraid to say that because so many people love Taylor Jenkins Reid so much. 🙂

That’s fair enough I DNF’d Emily Henry’s book last year but loads loved that as well.

I tried to read and then listen to Daisy Jones and I just couldn’t get into it. Not sure if I would say I hated it, but I stopped reading. There have been a lot of books that I really enjoyed that others I trust didn’t like at all, but I can’t think of titles off the top of my head.

It’s funny isn’t how some books work and others don’t?

The one that springs to mind is “Little Cruelties” by Liz Nugent. I really disliked that book but have loved some of her other novels. Most recently, I really enjoyed her “Strange Sally Diamond “.

I know there are a lot that others loved, some hyped books, that I didn’t like. I wouldn’t say hate as that is strong. Funny thing is Daisy Jones is one of them. I had issues with The Maid, but I still liked it. I know there will be more that I loved and others were just meh about, but that is the beauty of so many books and authors.
