Plan For The Worst by Jodi TaylorSynopsis: “The eleventh book in the bestselling Chronicles of St Mary’s series. If you love Jasper Fforde, Ben Aaronovitch or Doctor Who, you won’t be able to resist Jodi Taylor. I would have trusted this man with my life. Until a couple of days ago, anyway. You know what they say – hope for the best, but plan for the worst. Max is quite accustomed to everything going wrong. She’s St Mary’s, after all. Disaster is her default state. But with her family reunited and a jump to Bronze Age Crete in the works, life is getting back to normal. Well, normal for St Mary’s. And then, following one fateful night at the Tower of London, everything Max thought she knew comes crashing down around her. Too late for plans. The worst has happened. And who can Max trust now?

My Review

This was another fab book in this series, full of adventure, history, time travel, disasters and lots of cups of tea! This is actually book 11 in the The Chronicles of St Mary’s series, and this series definitely needs to be read in order!

This book features trips by Max and various teams back to America before it was colonised, the Tower of London around the time of the Princes in the Tower, and a trip back to Ancient Crete (1600 BCE) to record life before a massive volcanic eruption on the nearby island on Thera (modern day Santorini).

As usual I enjoyed all the historical facts Jodi Taylor writes about when St. Mary’s are out in the field witnessing the historical events in real time. My favourite expedition was the Ancient Crete one, as it’s a part of history I’d never heard about before, so I found it fascinating. As always there was lots of personal issues going on in Max’s life, including one particular storyline that I hope has ended now as it’s not one I’ve enjoyed.

Zara Ramm’s narration is superb as always and I can’t imagine anyone else being able to voice it quite like her.

I really enjoy this series and definitely recommended it if you’re looking for a series full of history, adventure, humour, time-travel and a bit of romance!
