Kiss Her Goodbye by Lisa GardnerSynopsis: “A young mother haunted by war, determined to make a fresh start.  But sometimes, the sins of the past aren’t so easy to escape. Recent Afghan refugee Sabera Ahmadi was last seen exiting her place of work three weeks ago. The local police have yet to open a case, while her older, domineering husband seems unconcerned. Sabera’s closest friend, however, is convinced Sabera would never willingly leave her three‑year old daughter. At her insistence, missing persons expert Frankie Elkin agrees to take up the search through the broiling streets of Tucson. Just in time for a video of the young mother to surface—showing her walking away from the scene of a brutal double murder. Frankie quickly realises there’s much more to the Ahmadi family than meets the eye. The father Isaad is a brilliant mathematician, Sabera a gifted linguist, and their little girl Zahra—she has an uncanny ability to remember anything she sees. Which given everything that has happened during the girl’s short life, may be a terrible curse. When Isaad also disappears under mysterious circumstances and an attempt is made on Zahra’s life, Frankie realises she must quickly crack the code of this family’s horrific past.
Someone is coming for the Ahmadis. And violence is clearly an option. When everything is on the line, how far would you go to protect the ones you love?
Frankie is about to find out.

My Review

This was another really good book in the Frankie Elkin series, in fact it might be my favourite so far!

Once again Frankie is looking for a missing person, this time taking her to Tucson, Arizona, where she’s also pet sitting an iguana called Petunia, a Boa Constrictor called Marge and some baby pythons. Frankie is definitely not a snake or lizard person, but she needs somewhere to stay and the compound of the reptile owner is luxurious, plus the chef Genni is a fabulous character and Daryl the chauffeur comes in very handy the whole time’s she on the case.

As Frankie starts to look into Sabera’s disappearance, things start to get nasty, and she thinks that she’s finally taken on too much, especially as she hasn’t fully  recovered from what happened in the previous book Still See You Everywhere

This was a brutal and tragic story about Afghan refugees in the USA, full of family secrets that come back to haunt Sabera and her family. There are some really nasty scenes, but also some fun ones too. I had guessed one of Sabera’s secrets quite early on, but didn’t know why she’d disappeared, or who was hunting her down. I enjoyed the twist at the end, and though it was very clever.

Definitely recommended it you enjoy this series. I can’t wait for the next one!
