My Review

I really enjoyed this audiobook. This is the first book of a police procedural series set in the Shetland Islands.

This book is set in Lerwick, the biggest of the islands, where everyone knows everybody’s business, making it sound quite claustrophobic.

I really liked Inspector Jimmy Perez, and enjoying hearing his backstory as the book progressed. He was a good man, who had a past, but not the usual baggage you get in some police procedurals.

This was a good mystery/thriller, full of loads of suspicious characters, that had me constantly changing my mind about who the murderer was. When the big reveal came I wasn’t surprised as they had been on my radar.

I enjoyed the narration by Kenny Blyth, a new-to-me narrator, whose voice talents were excellent, especially his different accents, including a rather good Scouse accent. I enjoyed this so much that I’ve got the next few books from BorrowBox.

Highly recommended on audio if you enjoy murder mysteries set in small communities.
