My Review

This was a another wonderful book by Daphne Du Maurier, that I listened to via BookBeat.

I enjoyed Jamaica Inn last year, and wanted to listen to more of her books, so this has been perfect for my final book for one of my reading challenges this year.

As the above synopsis mentions, Lady is bored of life in London at the court of King Charles II, and escapes to Navron, her husband’s Cornish estate. There she feels free of the society and all it entails, and she starts to relax and enjoy the simpler things in life with her children.

Not long after arriving, she discovers that a French Pirate is robbing the local landowners and causing outrage. Instead of being frightened, she is intrigued as to who the pirate is, and where he could be hiding. When she eventually meets him, she is enchanted, and wants to spends more time with him, and join him on his next quest on the Cornish coast.

I loved everything about this audiobook, the story, setting and characters. Anna Scholey, a new-to-me narrator, was perfect bringing Donna, and the other characters to life. It was a wonderful listening experience, that has made me want to listen to more of Daphne du Maurier’s books.

Highly recommended if you enjoy historical fiction set in Cornwall.
