Just in case you missed it, International Women’s Day is being celebrated around the world today, March 8th 2017. My way of joining in is to share a very small selection of the some memorable women I’ve encountered in literature over the years.
Marian Sutro from the WW2 novel The Girl Who Flew From the Sky (U.S. edition Trapeze)

Ruth Jefferson a midwife in the contemporary novel Small Great Things by Jodi Picoult

Sophie Kent a British journalist in the thriller Breaking Dead by Corrie Jackson

Nujeen Mustafa a disabled Syrian refugee who travelled to Germany with her sister and her amazing story

Wilma Johnson, British artist, writer, mother and Surf Mama

Maisie Dobbs the main character in the detective series set between the War Years in London by Jacqueline Winspeare.

Do you recognise any of these women?
Who would you choose to celebrate IWD2017?
Great idea! Happy International Women Day!

Happy International Women’s Day! I have read a piece about Nujeen, as well as an interview she gave, and she seems like such a positive and cool girl. I’d love to meet her one day, to be honest. I love Chimamanda Ngozie Adichie, she’s one of my favorite writers, you should check out her works, if you haven’t already 🙂

Nujeen came across incredibly positive in her book as well. I’ve not read anything by Chimamanda Ngozie Adichie but I will definitely check her out thanks 🙂
