It’s time for #6degrees. It’s unquestionably the least demanding bookish meme on the interwebs, so join in!
Six Degrees of Separation is a monthly meme hosted by Books Are My Favourite and Best. The idea is to start with the book that Kate gives us and then create a chain of six books, each suggested by the one before…

This month’s starting book is Less than Zero by Bret Easton Ellis. I’ve not read the book but I do remember the film version with a rather young Robert Downey Jr, and the fantastic video by the Bangles for their cover of Hazy Shade of Winter.

Andrew McCarthy, the main character in Less Than Zero, was also part of the Brat Pack back in the 80s, along with Robert Downey Jr. A few years ago I discovered he’d become a travel writer for National Geographic and added his memoir The Longest Way Home to my Goodreads tbr.

This reminds me of Long Way Home by Eva Dolan. It’s the first book in my favourite police procedural series set in Cambridgeshire. It’s a brilliant series that never fails to make me really think about the victims and perpetrators in the story.

Another book I’ve read set in Cambridge is Dead Scared by Sharon Bolton. It’s got to be one of the creepiest books I’ve ever read and not one I’d recommend if you are the parent of a student at Cambridge University.

Another book that would freak me out if I had a teenage daughter was Reconstructing Amelia by Kimberly McCreight. I really enjoyed this psychological thriller that used social media to drive the plot.

Another book to feature social media, is To Kill The President by Sam Bourne. This book was such a surreal read, that at times I thought I was reading my Twitter feed.

This brings me to my final book Fatherland by Robert Harris, a fantastic thriller that chilled me to the bone. Set in 1964, it imagines what Europe would be like if the Nazis had won WW2 and Hitler was still alive.
I’d be interested to read Fatherland having watched the film Darkest Hour, which brings home how close Britain was to being invaded

It’s definitely worth a read it’s one of my favourites by Robert Harris. Have you read Dominion by C.J. Sansom? It’s set in Britain in the 1950s as if Hitler invaded Britain, it’s bleak but great imagining by the author.

Thanks it’s a good fun as you really don’t know where you’re going to end up. It’s always starts on the first Saturday of the month and can be done any time. 🙂

The least demanding bookish meme, I don’t know about that.. it still involves choices and that’s not my strong point :-). Are you going to read the new Eva Dolan? They were going to send me a copy but it seems like that’ll never happen .. I’m a big fan of Sharon Bolton so happy to see one of her books is on your list 🙂

I definitely want to read the new Eva Dolan even though it’s not part of her crime series. I’ll probably buy mine as I haven’t been offered one.
