I’m thrilled to welcome you to my stop on the blog tour for The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides. Thanks so much to Tracy Fenton for inviting me and to Orion for the ARC via NetGalley. Before I share my review here’s what the book is all about:

“I love him so totally, completely, sometimes it threatens to overwhelm me.
Sometimes I think-
No. I won’t write about that.
ALICIA
Alicia Berenson writes a diary as a release, an outlet – and to prove to her beloved husband that everything is fine. She can’t bear the thought of worrying Gabriel, or causing him pain. Until, late one evening, Alicia shoots Gabriel five times and then never speaks another word.
THEO
Forensic psychotherapist Theo Faber is convinced he can successfully treat Alicia, where all others have failed. Obsessed with investigating her crime, his discoveries suggest Alicia’s silence goes far deeper than he first thought. And if she speaks, would he want to hear the truth?”

My Review
Wow this is such a clever story and one that I thoroughly enjoyed reading. I don’t read many thrillers these days, partly because I’m a bit of a scaredy cat, but also because the big reveal is never as gobsmacking as I want it to be. This book had me it’s grip straight away as I followed Theo on his quest to treat Alicia, to get her to open up and speak to him.
The Silent Patient is told from Theo’s point of view but interspersed with diary entries from Alicia. Both Theo and Alicia are fascinating characters, both bearing their souls as they tell their stories about their private and work lives. Alicia was an artist before her husband’s murder and Theo was working as a psychotherapist at Broadmoor, the infamous high-security psychiatric hospital in England.
Everyone in this book was seriously dodgy in my eyes, I had so many theories about what was happening and everyone new character who came along was a new suspect in my eyes.
Even though I had my suspicions about what was going on, I didn’t guess the how or why at all! The writing and plotting was so clever that when I finished the book I had a huge smile on my face, really glad that I’d read this brilliant thriller. 😀

It does sound really cool… I admit I’m intrigued as to what triggered her to overreact! Sounds like a really fun read. ❤
