Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.
The rules are simple:
- Each Tuesday, Jana assigns a new topic. Create your own Top Ten list that fits that topic – putting your unique spin on it if you want.
- Everyone is welcome to join but please link back to The Artsy Reader Girl in your own Top Ten Tuesday post.
- Add your name to the Linky widget on that day’s post so that everyone can check out other bloggers’ lists.
- Or if you don’t have a blog, just post your answers as a comment.
This week’s topic is Things That Make Me Pick Up a Book.
- A striking cover
2. A favourite author
3. A favourite narrator
4. An intriguing synopsis
5. A Special Offer
6. A promotion on Twitter or Facebook
7. An alluring photo on Instagram
8. A sequel in a series I love
9. A nonfiction topic I’m interested in
10. A recommendation from a book blogger, friend or family
I’m a sucker for a striking cover, and I definitely have my “instapick” authors.

Covers are so important 🙂

covers get me straight away and then other evil bloggers with their good reviews for a book make me pick it up! 😉

Oh yes evil bloggers 😂

I agree with all of those, and I definitely do like good cover art.

Completely with this list! I’m such a sucker for an eye-catching cover… despite the famous phrase about judging book covers.

Good to know I’m not the only one judging books by their covers!

I’m someone who if I’ve heard the author speak and have enjoyed listening to them, I’m guaranteed to buy the book!

Twitter and other book bloggers are my downfall. Every time I read one book, it seems like I add another five because of recommendations. xD Book covers, too! If it’s got an attention-grabbing cover, I will check it out every time to see if it’s something I’m interested in. Favorite authors, too. There are some authors that if I see a book by them, I’ll automatically read it. 🙂 Great list!
Here’s my TTT post.

A special offer is a big one for me, too! I love a bargain, especially when it’s on books. It’s tough to resist a good book sale or a nice coupon.
Happy TTT!

I feel like the combination of gorgeous/striking cover art and presentation on Instagram, via a bookish photo, is the ULTIMATE kryptonite for me. And the community in general. SO, YES. I agree with so many of these. Great list!

Agreed! Though I should keep better track of fave narrators 🤔

Yeah it took me a while to do that and of course I’m always discovering new favourites.

I see 7 of my reasons on this list💜 Covers might send me running but don’t influence much in me adding (been burned too many times). I’m not on Instagram much, either.

7 reasons is great what are the others?

There are certain (embarrassing) tropes that I’m just a sucker for. Small town series gets my attention every time and, for some reason or another, British crime detective series are a weakness.

I have not yet started looking for favourite narrators, but as I am listening more and more, that will definitely be something I start doing. Great list Nicki.

I rarely listen to audio books, so narrators aren’t usually on my list (though I did listen to the How To Train Your Dragon books because of David Tennant…) Other than that, I’ll pick up a book because of good reviews combined with a good synopsis, plus a favorite author is usually an instant buy 🙂 Thanks for the fun post!

Thanks! David Tennant is such a good narrator. I loved his narration of On Her Majesty’s Secret Service by Ian Fleming.
