what-could-possibly-go-wrong-4Synopsis: “To do what I do – go where I go – see what I see – it’s a wonderful, unique, never-to-be-taken-for-granted privilege.’

With great privilege comes great responsibility, something Max knows only too well, and as newly appointed Chief Training Officer at the St Mary’s Institute of Historical Research, it’s up to her to drum this guiding principle into her five new recruits.

With a training programme that includes Joan of Arc, an illegal mammoth, a duplicitous Father of History, a bombed rat, Stone Age hunters and Dick the Turd, the question everyone is asking themselves is – what could possibly go wrong?”

My Review

This was great fun. It’s a book full of adventure, history, time travel, disasters and lots of cups of tea!

This is actually book 6 in the The Chronicles of St Mary’s series, but the first I’ve got around to reviewing. I actually listened to the first 5 via Audible and Scribd earlier in the year, and enjoyed them so much that I couldn’t resist buying the next few paperbacks that I found in a local charity shop recently.

As the synopsis above says this book is all about Max, the main character, and her new trainees learning how to record historical events in real time, hence the time travel aspect of the books. As with all things St. Mary’s nothing ever goes to plan and so the same happens in this book bringing hilarity, but loads of other emotions including shock, sadness and relief.

I love Max and the other members of St Mary’s, but there are a few I’m not so keen on. I also really, really enjoy all the historical facts Jodi Taylor writes about when St. Mary’s are out in the field witnessing the real historical events. I love the attention to detail she goes into when making sure the teams are dressed appropriately for the times they are visiting.

I always come away from these books learning something new, as I did this time with Joan of Arc, Richard III, Herodotus, the Valley of the Kings and the Pleistocene Period.

Highly recommended if you’re looking for a series full of history, adventure, fun and a bit of romance!
