30 Day Book Challenge – Day 8 – A Book You Were Assigned in School #30DayBookChallenge #November2025 #BookRecommendations #BookSky #SecretLibraryBookBlog
I do love a book challenge, so I’ve joined in with this one after spotting it on Bluesky.
Day 8 – A book you were assigned at school
I think I studied A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens at school, and didn’t enjoy it at the time. I did however, love it when I listened to it back in 2018!
I’m not tagging anyone, but if you want to join in please do!

I don’t think I studied Dickens in school. We did a few Shakespeare and Thomas Hardy books. I’d probably choose Far From the Madding Crowd. I can’t remember if I liked it in school or not but I’ve since re-read it and enjoyed it. I love the fairly recent film adaptation too.
I don’t think we had to read any Dickens while I was in school, but we did read a lot of Shakespeare. I think the one book I remember the most was Flowers for Algernon and one I think I should reread. I should try The Tale of Two Cities on audio, I have seen the movie though, just not sure what year it was.b
What a coincidence! Hubby and I watched an old film version of this last night. Great choice, Nicki💜

How fun! Was it the Dirk Bogarde version?

It was the 1935 film starring Ronald Colman and Basil Rathbone.

I’ve tried this book three times and stumble at the same point each time.

I much prefer his books on audio, but I also have to be in the mood for them!

I’ve never heard of Flowers for Algernon, Carla.

It was by Daniel Keyes, about a man with a low IQ who has an experimental surgery to make him smarter. It has a very sad ending.
